The Geary Gallery is becoming known as a pre-eminent Fairfield
County showcase for representational art. Its proprietors, Tom
and Anne Geary are more than art dealers. They are friends to artists,
spotting talent and market appeal, and nurturing careers.
They
are also consummate retailers, meeting the practical needs of the
professional arts community, consumers and collectors for quality
framing and restoration. They do so via Accent Picture Framing & Restoration,
companion business to the gallery.
Over
the years, Accent Picture Framing & Restoration has been the
source of many relationships with artists. Its reputation for quality
framing work has attracted well-known artists who have gone on
to exhibit in the gallery.
The Geary Gallery maintains an ambitious exhibition schedule,
changing shows approximately every five weeks except during the
summer months. They feature both Connecticut-based artists with
national reputations and well-known artists from along the eastern
seaboard.
Notably, master pastelist Gene Sparkman exhibits at the Geary
Gallery as does Andrew N. Wyeth, nephew of Andrew Wyeth, every
other year. The Gearys have also launched careers. For example,
the Chinese artist Xue Jian-Xin had his first U.S. show at the
Geary Gallery before he was even free to leave his native Suchou
in the People's Republic. He has since emigrated and gone on to
a well-respected career here. He continues to exhibit at the Geary
Gallery.
Recognizing the value of the Internet as a vehicle for providing
information about their business and for globally promoting the
work of the artists they represent, the Gearys established this
site on the World Wide Web.
Within the context of realism, the Geary Gallery has become a
marvelously eclectic resource for the art viewer and collector.
The Gearys' willingness to trust their instincts about the artists
they handle -- operating outside the sometimes stifling environment
of the art establishment -- provides opportunities for Fairfield
County art lovers to 'discover' an artist. |
