My oil paintings are inspired by ordinary objects and flower; conceived by developing ideas and compositions following a classical tradition using careful observation of light. My paintings have a narrative quality and are meant to arouse the viewer’s imagination and stimulate an appreciation of the fleeting beauty of these arrangements.
Barbara’s interest in art has been a life-long journey. Drawing and painting at a very early age, always seeking a way to channel her creative energy with a visual interpretation of the beautiful and mysterious world around her.
Her interest and curiosity in nature continues to grow and persist in her paintings today. An avid gardener, she often utilizes seasonal flowers in her paintings. Barbara’s still life paintings often captures related culinary items as they might be encountered when preparing a meal.
In 2019, she became a finalist in the Art Renewal Center 14th Annual Salon, a prestigious honor given that only 1,500 works are selected from nearly 5,000 international submissions.
Barbara received a BA with a concentration in painting from Ramapo College of New Jersey and an MA in studio ceramics from Montclair State University.
Her pursuit of a more classical approach to realism lead her to study at Grand Central Atelier in New York with accomplished artists Greg Mortensen, Justin Wood, Colleen Barry and Patrick Byrnes, as well as in the private studio of Michael Klein and Josh LaRock.
Barbara resides with her husband and standard poodle in Bergen County, NJ and Middlebury, Vermont.
