The Variable Face of the Sea

I have always been a creative soul ……Always making things….having more fun creating than waiting for that special occasion to fulfill my wish list. My childhood summers on the upper Cape in Welfleet and Truro was inspirational. I began painting when I was young using my model paints to do small scenes of the iconic fishing boats and estuaries that were popular back then. A BA from Denison University (’75) major in History, major in Film and minor in Art. The Advertising world beckoned me as a career choice since I was realistic and knew from experience that doing art was one thing and selling was another. My miniature work and backdrops were credited for Outstanding Art Direction and Production in my 2005 film in the DixieFilmFest entitled “The OTHER Great Locomotive Chase” My post production storage locker became the basis of the many varied Holiday Christmas Layouts I have created for the Rowayton Historical Society! Since 2010 (now into it’s 9th year!) Advertising honed my artistic skills allowing me to bring my many talents in all mediums to bear on thousands of jobs in the past 42 years.

My print series “Notable Days in New Canaan” were large complex pieces that were original paintings from a ¾ birds eye view perspective of all the New Canaan Town events. The most popular 4th of July at Waveny Park, The Memorial Day Parade & Christmas Eve at Gods Acre prints are still sold today at Holiday time.

In the last year the National Battlefield Parks of Fredericksburg, VA and Chancellorsville, VA have installed the 2 50 inch x 80 inch outdoor displays (my ¾ overhead viewing angle) of both of these epic battles during the American Civil War. They are teaching tools for the park rangers to give the many visitors a clearer story of the battlefield as it was minus the latter encroachment of civilization.

When I am not doing a Commercial venture…I always return to the coastal theme. The look of the Sea is never the same…but always variable. The elements of Wind Water and Weather cause it to shift constantly. Here in Rowayton, CT. I can be at the beach or along the 5 Mile River at anytime of the year! Who of us can ever remember a bad day at the beach!?! …Be it Fall, Winter, Spring or Summer. To me there is always a feeling of the eternal cycle of life as with the ever changing situations and conditions that we face in our life from time to time.
