Edith McClean

Edith, a long time resident of Rowayton, has exhibited at many local art societies such as the Stamford Art Association, the Maritime Center, The Painter’s Gallery, the Connecticut Women Artists in Stamford and also included was a one person show at the Darien Library in the summer of 2001. Other exhibitions included ones at the University of Alabama, the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts, George Washington University and in Bury St. Edmunds, England.

Edith McClean has studied art at the University of Alabama, Huntington College, George Washington University, and at Silvermine
Guild. She has also studied with well-known area artists.

Her paintings are her impressions of everyday objects and scenes done in a Matisse-like fashion. “To me painting is like doing a puzzle, you keep putting shapes and colors together until the picture emerges. I think too much is made of the meaning behind the painting; maybe the artist painted a still life of fruit because he was hungry?!”
