Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Elisabeth Aguiar’s interest in drawing began in adolescence. Her studies of art and drawing began at the Bela Art Institute. Future studies were pursued at the School of Interior Design where she received her bachelor’s degree. Elisabeth continued her studies and earned her master’s degree at Pontificia Universidade Catolica, in Rio de Janeiro. Her adulthood has been dedicated to oil paintings, following the footsteps of Impressionist artists with her strong admiration for Monet, Renoir and Manet.
Elisabeth has a strong interest in painting figures and landscapes. She uses her grandchildren as inspiration, and the beauty of childhood has helped her to create some of her favorite pieces of work on linen canvas. She uses free pencil movements that include many forms of shade and light. Her landscape work shows the love of change of seasons. Her work in fall displays the diversity of colors in autumn changing from yellow to caramel and awakens her passion for the season. The colors of spring help her to create her compositions with subtleness and the white blue hues of snow bring a quietness to her winter pieces. Summertime regattas playing in the wind inspire her summer pieces.
Aguiar’s work has been seen in numerous exhibitions in Rio de Janeiro. She currently spends most of her time in Rio and Riverside with family, painting her pieces and teaching oil and acrylic painting classes, in both private and small group settings.
Joined the studio of Roberto de Souza (grand master of the Brazilian School of Belas Artes) where she mastered the technique of oil painting.
Attended courses at the Spring Studio in NYC, where she mastered her technique of figure drawing and anatomy using live models.
