A native of Chicago, Maryann is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). She majored and worked in film animation in the Chicago area for several years.
After moving to the east coast in the late 1980’s her career direction turned to mural designs, a medium that allowed her to express her unique creativity quite broadly. Working with clients and designers, she developed a loyal following in the Tri-State New York metro area. Maryann can transform a wall into a statement, story, work of art that uniquely captures a home’s special feel or redefines it.
However, Maryann’s true interest focuses on oil painting: creating on canvas what she sees, feels, visualizes… that which she can transpose to media in her own style. Over the past several years she has been creating beautiful renderings of nature, cities, people, pets, but mostly the ever-changing, ever evolving, charm of the Berkshires Hills from her studio on Lake Ashmere, MA.
Her debut in the genre has been well received indeed. In 2006, her “Winter Birches” were selected by AARP in a Nationwide contest to grace their Annual Calendar distributed to some 600,000 sponsors. It was again selected to be their Annual Holiday Card.
Her first opening was in Westport in 2006. In 2007, she participated in a juried show in New Haven where she received another award. She has been featured in magazines and newspapers, as well as 8 different galleries in 2008 alone. In 2008, she had a one person show in Ridgefield, Ct, and shows many of her works at the Lenox gallery of Fine Art in Lenox MA.
Maryann also works on private commissions of paintings as well as leading Chinese Brush Painting workshops and classes.
