Rebecca Stern is an artist and teacher living and working in Stamford CT. She was born and raised in Berkeley, CA where she was homeschooled by her parents. She found her passion for art at San Francisco City College and went on to earn a BFA from Lesley University College of Art and Design in Boston, MA. Post college, she relocated to Fairfield County to teach art at Middlesex Middle School in Darien, CT.
Rebecca’s artwork is heavily influenced by the passing of time and the relationship we have with the present moment. Each painting is created as an investigation of a moment. A memorial of an experience that inevitably passes.
Prior to this, her method had been meticulous, pre-planned, and tedious. “Creating these paintings has been a personal journey of letting go, getting in touch with my ever changing sea of emotions, and pausing in the moment to express the complexity of my current reality.” Rebecca pours, scrapes, drips, and spreads paint across the surface without a plan to create instantaneous, complex, and open ended compositions.
