Catherine Andersen is a first-generation American, born to Italian and Irish parents. She has expressed how fortunate she was that her wonderful parents raised her in New York City, where she spent countless afternoons visiting galleries and museums.
Andersen attended the High School of Art & Design in Manhattan, where she studied — and created —in all art mediums. She painted backdrops for TV and theatre. Andersen then attended Boston University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science.
Andersen explains, “My inspiration comes from the sea, sky, clouds and marshes that surround me. I strive to create art that is reflective and calming.”
She continues, “I love being out on our boat as the sun fades, the light on the water in ever constant motion. I take countless photos to capture these moments and often use them for references. I love painting impressionable land and seascapes on large canvases.”
Her paintings have been featured primarily in exhibits in New Jersey where she resides, including the Canterbury Art Fair at St. George’s-by-the-Sea Episcopal Church, Rumson; the Middletown Library Five Points of View Art Show; Atlantic Highlands Yacht Club; Homefront Art Jam in Princeton; the Beach Haven Art Walk; and the Belmar Arts Council Oceans First Show. The Geary Gallery is excited to bring her works to Fairfield County, CT.
