Crimson Drift By Janine Robertson

About Janine Robertston

Living in Madison, Connecticut, Janine Robertson draws inspiration from the natural elements and boundless beauty of the ever-changing landscape. Her work captures the ephemeral essence of marshes, rivers, expansive skies, and the dynamic force of breaking waves. These subjects form the foundation of her luminous landscapes, which are painted on aluminum.

Robertson's decision to paint primarily on aluminum is central to her creative process. The reflective surface enhances the luminosity within each landscape, while the ultra-smooth substrate accentuates delicate brushwork and lends an ethereal quality to the finished pieces. The result is a remarkable depth and radiance that is distinctive to this medium.

After beginning her career as a muralist and trompe l'oeil painter, Robertson transitioned to easel painting, where she discovered a more intimate scale for exploring light, atmosphere, and stillness. Many of her paintings begin en plein air and are completed in the studio, while others evolve from memory and imagination.

Whether portraying the quiet serenity of a salt marsh or the dynamic energy of a breaking wave, Robertson strives to create paintings that balance movement with tranquility, inviting viewers to pause, reflect, and connect with the natural world.

In addition to her gallery work, Robertson creates commissioned paintings for both public and private collections, including Yale New Haven Health. Her work is valued for its ability to bring a sense of tranquility, reflection, and connection into homes, healthcare environments, and other public spaces.
