Jill Nichols

Jill Harrington Nichols paintings reflect a deeply instilled appreciation for the sea. She began sailing at the age of 5 on Blue Jays, Lightenings and her family's Sunfish. She now teaches sailing and sets out to the deep blue occasionally to deliver boats back home from the Caribbean.
She paints everyday either in her studio or on location. She often treks the countryside, searching for a great painting plein air location. "Painting on location, I find myself traveling through distance and time, translating several dimensions into two."
Her fine art training includes the Art Students League in New York City, Silvermine Guild in New Canaan, Old Lyme Academy and Gallery 53 in Connecticut. She has been privileged to study under many noted artists that have helped form a firm foundation for her paintings.
“My painting is poetry; a lyrical composition of color and light. When I am painting I am in the moment, thoroughly present and enraptured. I experience a sense of peace, as well as an urgency to capture and share the moment. It is a privilege to paint.”
This year Jill had a One-Woman Show at the Gallery at Firehouse Square in New London. Shows of note last year include: Connecticut Plein Air Painters Society 2012 Annual Exhibition, Governors Mansion, Reception for Connecticut Woman Artists and the Old Lyme Art Association, “Marine Art” and “Life Along the River”.
Jill has had several TV interviews and was recently featured in the Connecticut Post, Pulse section, for her artwork.
At the American Society of Marine Artists annual meeting, Jill was awarded an Outstanding Service Award and limited edition print by ASMA president Russ Kramer for her Design and Publishing of the 15th Annual Exhibition Catalog.
Jill paints as much as possible and enjoys teaching painting and sharing her knowledge.
